Really, This Is Who I Am

Facebook, Liberty Sports Writing, Twitter and finally a Blog.  Probably long over due, but had to build up to yet another writing commitment.

If 10k runs count my endurance career started in 1980.  If marathons count then 1982.  If Ironmans get you in the club then 1985...100 Mile runs, 1998...throughout all those years I faced both the known and unknown while always considering myself to be a self made athlete.  I did not grow up in an athletic family, and did not do any formal team or individual sports in high school.  I saw myself as the awkward guy with the weird name.  We introductions require repeating your name for 5 minutes you don't always develop the highest level of self-confidence.

Now as I look at what I am doing and where I am, I often wonder if perhaps I stumbled into someone else's life.  At the same time I see doors opening and opportunities presenting themselves.  Perhaps I need to reach 40 before I could comprehend the need and even obligation to seize those opportunities in an effort to make a positive impact on my life, my family, my community and the environment around me.

Yes, I am an endorphin junkie.  More importantly I want a specific reward at the end of each race, event or training session...I want the environment and community that I move through to be just a little bit better.

Looking forward to more insights, reflections, inspirations and ideas regarding the oceans, lakes and waterways of this planet that we depend upon yet seldom stop to consider. I'm a "newbie" to the open-waters but definitely "hooked" after a few open water swims. At this point I'm just trying to soak it all in, find out all the information I can and learn as much as I can. Bruchner is a true inspiration, visionary and pioneer in many reagrds. His is a voice we chould all listen to know and will certainly be hearing in years to come. Keep Rising!

Thanks for the support and encouragement.  I feel there is so much we can all do to have a positive impact on our own lives, the lives of those around us and the environments in which we spend so much time.

      Have a great weekend.
